The new WordPress is pretty slick
Thursday, December 11th, 2008
The big news on the street (especially the blogging street) is that WordPress has been updated to version 2.7.
I installed it tonight and man, what a makeover. They use javascript all over the place in the administration interface, making it much more customizeable. One of my biggest gripes with the old-new interface (this is the second redesign this year) was the amount of scrolling involved to do basic things, like categorizing posts; now, though, you have the option to limit scrolling, or even eliminating it altogether.
And we finally have the ability to upload media without having to write a post or page! Jeez, that’s been a long time comin’.
I’ve been using WordPress as a CMS for a long time now on client sites, and they have always seemed to like it. This new overhaul will make it much easier for clients to keep their websites up to date; the older interface was functional, but it tended to get in the way. The new one does just the opposite, and so far, I love it.
