The new WordPress is pretty slick
Thursday, December 11th, 2008
The big news on the street (especially the blogging street) is that WordPress has been updated to version 2.7.
I installed it tonight and man, what a makeover. They use javascript all over the place in the administration interface, making it much more customizeable. One of my biggest gripes with the old-new interface (this is the second redesign this year) was the amount of scrolling involved to do basic things, like categorizing posts; now, though, you have the option to limit scrolling, or even eliminating it altogether.
And we finally have the ability to upload media without having to write a post or page! Jeez, that’s been a long time comin’.
I’ve been using WordPress as a CMS for a long time now on client sites, and they have always seemed to like it. This new overhaul will make it much easier for clients to keep their websites up to date; the older interface was functional, but it tended to get in the way. The new one does just the opposite, and so far, I love it.

Just a quick thanks to all the blogs that have been linking to my site lately! The attention has me all blushy and whatnot. That feature on CSSMania really caused a ripple effect.
So thanks, Tips and Tricks, Werewolf, ResourcePile, Black Cover, and Productive Dreams. (I should note, Gopal Raju of Productive Dreams, that your site is gorgeous. Thanks again for the feature.) Keep the links comin’, and for crying out loud, hire me!

The DesignMeltdown Book
Tuesday, November 4th, 2008
Patrick McNeil of DesignMeltdown turned his website into a book!
And guess whose website was featured.
That’s right–Big Sweater Design is featured in the book. It’s a similar setup to the Design Meltdown site–sections are separated by themes and trends in Web design. I’m in the “Tags” section, just as on the site.
The book looks terrific and is a real source of inspiration for anybody interested in Web design. Thanks to Patric for liking my site enough to include it in his book! It’s a real thrill to see my work in print, and a huge compliment on top of that.

Hosting changes, etc.
Wednesday, April 9th, 2008
Big Sweater Design is now hosted with MediaTemple. I’d had some problems with my old host, specifically with my site taking forever to respond. When I called support about it, they basically said “Sorry, we can’t do anything about that right now.” If it had been a one time occurrence—any shared server setup is bound to get slammed at some point, rendering sites on the server slow or unresponsive—that would be understandable. But it’s happened several times, and I can’t afford for my site to be inaccessible.
It doesn’t help that they made no offer for reparation—no offer for credit, nor any offer to move my site to a more responsive server in their cluster. They were aware of the problems their servers were having, but could give me no answer in the way of when they’d be fixed.
So I’d read great things about MediaTemple, and decided to host it there. So far I couldn’t be happier.
In other news: welcome, noupe.com readers!

In the way of updates
Friday, April 4th, 2008
I haven’t updated the site in about two months, so I figured it’s time to add a spot of news to the site.
A lot has happened since January!
